Collecting in The Sims 3Hello Sims Fans!
My name is Eric Holmberg-Weidler and I am one of the designers on The Sims 3. With the new game we’ve added a plethora of items to grow, catch, and create that translate into skills for your Sims. Two examples of this are in the gardening skill and fishing skill. There are over twenty varieties of fish to catch, scattered across various beaches and lakes around town. Some of the rarest fish can only be found in special locations around the neighborhood, or only at specific times. An example is the experimental robot fish, which can only be caught behind the science facility. Once caught, fish can be used for many purposes. Two of my favorites are purely for collecting: you can mount any fish you catch on the wall, or if you prefer to keep your fish alive, you can put them in fish bowls and display them around your house.
The gardening skill also has many different fruits and vegetables to discover and grow. This includes old favorites like the money tree, and many new types of plants including a special sort that will allow you to grow almost anything from eggs (not your normal type of eggplant!) to steak, as well as much more. Some of these rarer plants can only be obtained after completing special opportunities, exploring out of the way parts of town, or even by fishing them up.
I have to say my favorite types of collection in The Sims 3 aren’t tied to skills at all. These include the ability to collect all sorts of insects, butterflies, and beetles, as well as space rocks, minerals, and even gems. We’ve tucked these all around the neighborhood for you to find and collect as you play. Once you’ve found something cool, you usually have several options with what you want to do with it. It can be quite lucrative to find gems and sell them, or if you like the way they look, you can put them on display. Raw gems can be sent out to get cut into one of many different shapes of polished gemstone. Space rocks can be displayed in their raw form, although they won’t all conveniently fit in your house, as some are bigger than your Sim! Insects can be named and kept around the house as pets in terrariums, and minerals can even be smelted into bars. Want a treasure room stacked with gold bars? Go ahead!
When these collectables are put on display in your house, they can make a big difference in how happy your Sims are when nearby.
Recently, while playing the game, I created myself as a Sim and set out to explore the neighborhood and do a little collecting.
My Sim self had been looking forward to going on a fishing trip all week. He’d recently moved to Sunset Valley, and had heard there was a lake in the woods near his house where he could do some killer fishing. He woke up early Saturday morning, took a quick shower, and was off at 5am, hoping to get to the lake by six. The fish are always the most enthusiastic in the morning.
My Sim ran across the street and was quickly in the woods, walking down a somber forest path. Lost in his own thoughts and enjoying the great outdoors, it wasn’t long before a sparkle in the periphery of his vision caught his eye. A few quick steps brought him closer and crouching down he found a strange rock. As he picked up it and examined it, it sparkled at odd angles, bending the light in bizarre ways. While my Sim was by no means a rock collector, he had seen his share of geology, and this was like nothing he’d witnessed before. Pocketing it for later, he continued on his way, still eager to get to his fishing destination.
Climbing over a small boulder in the path and topping a hill, the lake spread out before my Sim, shimmering in the sun. Expecting calm waters, he was surprised to see the surface covered in ripples. Everywhere he looked, fish were breaking the surface, some completely leaving the water, fighting for food or a touch of morning air. Without a moment to lose, my Sim pulled out his trusty fishing rod, baited it, and cast into the middle of one of the liveliest areas.
Some hours later he’d caught a half dozen fish of several common varieties. A few were perfect enough specimens to be considered for mounting on the wall. My Sim was on his last cast of the day, when he made the catch of a lifetime! He reeled in what felt like an unusually small fish. Grabbing it out of the water, he stared into the malevolent, blood-red eyes of an almost pitch-black fish. Tiny fangs protruded from either side of its mouth. A chill ran through my Sim, whether from fear, or from the prospect of adding this prize to his collection of fish he did not know.
Satisfied with my story, I quickly saved my game and shut down the computer.
There is a ton more to find and collect in The Sims 3 that I would love to tell you about, but since I am running out of space I will have to leave you to discover them for yourself. Happy hunting and thanks for reading!

Sims3 Install Limits - what is that all about?
There has been a lot of argument and debate about installation limits, in particular from players who do not like the superficial idea of renting rather than buying a game. There are certainly some misconceptions about this, so I hope the following will serve to clarify this issue.
| |
I can't stress this too highly, at this time EA have NOT decided whether or not Sims 3 will have limited installations and they have also not decided if so, how many installations each license will have. Regardless it is my opinion that it is likely to be at least 5, since Spore shipped with just 3 which was quickly ammended to 5 in the first patch due to the fierce backlash of the Spore community.

Well not so new but its new to me due to i been on holidays
EA Poland posted 4 screenshots coming from the Creator's Camp.
Sims3 Delay FULL STORY
Eurogamer: Electronic Arts has said it is "evaluating the launch window" for The Sims 3 after European retailers were told to expect a delay last week.
The publisher had previously announced that the game would be released on 20th February.
However, last week several retailers in Eastern Europe relisted the game as "first half 2009". UK retailers - including online giants Amazon and Play - still carry the 20th February target, but EA issued the following statement:
"We are evaluating the launch window. The game looks great and in the near future we'll have more information."
So we wouldn't bank on being able to play it on 20th February.
Last week, EA chief executive John Riccitiello told the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences that his next priority was, "Helping make The Sims 3 a huge success."
Given the huge success of The Sims 2 and its expansions, it's no surprise EA wants to get the third game's launch right. Check out our gamepage for The Sims 3 to see how developer Maxis has got on up to now.

Blog.Wired Also has a Blog about this delay also:
Initially pegged as a February 20 release, the third entry in Electronic Arts' hyper-popular people simulator The Sims may be facing a delay, reports Edge Online.
Release delay speculation began swirling after EA changed the official listing for the game's launch date to a nebulous "TBA" on the firm's website. When a number of gaming retailers followed suit, EA issued a statement to quell any possible consumer panic in which the firm stated that it is now "evaluating the launch window."
As Edge points out, though it remains unclear why the Sims 3 would be delayed, the success of the game is no doubt crucial to EA's health as a publisher in these trying economic times. With mega hyped titles such as Spore, Dead Space and Boom Blox all failing to meet expectations during the holidays, EA badly needs Sims 3 to live up to its series pedigree.

Incgamers Has Blog about the delay also Stating :
EA has revealed that the Sims 3 will be delayed and not make its previously announced release date.
In a statement issued by EA today they announced that the Sims 3 will be delayed and a new release date has not been yet set. The game was previously scheduled for a February 20th release.
The announcement comes after the official website for the game changed the release date to TBA. When asked about the delay EA stated they are "evaluating the launch window" and to reassure fans of the series added "The game looks great and in the near future we'll have more information".

How to Dual Boot Windows Vista and Xp with windows vista installed first
if your vista sims3 system rew dont meat this:
* Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)
* 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
* 1.5 GB RAM
* At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content
* 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
Most likely you need to install xp because it uses less req As shown:
OR WINDOWS XP
* Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
* 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
* 1 GB RAM
* At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content
* 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
So if you want to have vista and xp you can dual boot it so here is how to dual boot xp with vista installed first :
you want to install Vista onto an XP computer, try the reverse tutorial: Dual Boot XP and Vista (XP already installed)
I'm not going to post any stats on XP, if you're running Vista, you certainly can run XP
*You will need your XP and Vista installation discs!
Step 1 - Partition the Drive:
Vista comes with a nice partitioning tool, so i'll be using it instead of partition magic this time around.
-right-click computer under the start menu and choose "manage"
-right-click the drive you want to partition, and select "Shrink Partition"
-The amount you shrink the partition is the amount of space used for the XP partition, so i would suggest making it at least 3-4GB in size, as a full XP installation will take 1.5GB on it's own.
-now right-click the unallocated memory and select new basic partition.
-Choose NTFS file system, this will save formatting before installation.
-name the drive anything you like, i chose "XP"
-click next on the rest of the screens and finish.
once the formatting is finished you will have something like this:
*this new partition is where your XP installation will go, so take note of it's location, in case there are multiple partitions on the drive (there will now be atleast 2).
Step 2 - Install XP:
wait while XP installs (I won't go into detail, there are many tutorials on this, and it is reasonably straight forward)
Now that XP has installed, it attempts to boot for the first time... all goes fine, video settings, networking, then the lovely welcome screen as usual.
You restart, expecting a boot loader screen... followed the tutorial this far, and now you seem to only have XP... well not quite, I wouldn't leave you hanging without giving you a proper dual boot.
here lies the only real issue with installing XP after Vista, but it's a quick fix if you have your Vista CDs/DVD handy.
The problem is that Vista and XP use different boot loader utilities in the MBR (Master Boot Record) of your hard drive. XP does not recognize Vista, but Vista will recognize XP, so we need to remove the boot loader that XP just put in with the old Vista boot loader. So restart once more, but this time with your Vista disc in the drive.
Step 3 - Fix Boot Loader:
Vista will load the GUI files, and then display the loading splash screen.
-Click "Next" on the first screen
-Once the "Install Now" menu (do not click Install Now) choose "Repair Your Computer":
-You will be prompted to choose the OS to repair. Don't worry if Vista is the only OS that shows up, even after a search.
click "Next"
-I realize there is a "Fix Startup" option, but it's been my experience that it doesn't work, and this method will.
-choose to open a "Command Prompt":
type in the command prompt the following 2 lines (separatly):
Bootrec.exe /fixMBR
Bootrec.exe /fixBoot
-close the prompt and restart
-now that Vista controls your boot loader, the process is mostly finished, now we need to inform Vista that XP is installed, as to enable the boot loader selection screen.
*There are programs such as VistaBootPRO that will do this for you, but it requires .NET framework, etc, so I did it the manual way.
Step 4 - Edit boot.ini:
In Vista, the boot.ini is not editable directly, as the file itself is hard to locate, so we will be modifying it through "Boot Configuration Data Store Editor" bcdedit.exe:
(Just as an explanation, the loader type for XP is an NT Loader, hence the use of ntldr)
-first open a command prompt with administrative privilages (right-click and choose "run as administrator")
*Note the following 2 answers from bcdedit for each item are acceptable:
"The Operation Completed Successfully"
"The Specified Entry Already Exists"
Be sure to type each line carefully (replace C in the first line with the drive containing your Vista installation):
bcdedit –set {ntldr} device partition=C:
bcdedit –set {ntldr} path \ntldr
bcdedit –displayorder {ntldr} –addlast
bcdedit -set {ntldr} description "Microsoft Windows XP"
The completed bcdedit file should resemble this:
-This will correctly add XP to your boot sequence, and even name it properly instead of "Earlier Version of Windows"
-the displayorder line also allows the entry to be visible under the advanced settings of your computer properties.
Vista is the default boot, if you wish to change this to XP it can be done by setting {current} to addlast, or under the computer -> properties -> advanced settings.
If all done properly, XP and Vista will dual boot properly!
